Black Rainbow
(Africantape / The Tempest International)
Well, I'll tell you. This record has me a little 'disappointed. Topic. I follow the onset of these guys, since I just heard they say that their self-titled debut were "the Italian version of Battles." Water has passed under the bridge since 2009 (crap, now two years are comparable to a geological era!) and the three concerts they have made bundles of Brescia, anywhere. The Ferliga (one of the three minds of the band, and collaborators from Giulio Favero, who happens to put his hand here, and manufacturer, to name a big, excellent second album Lucertulas ) trial was put well to take an interest in DJ sets and productions and, more importantly, dubstep. Which brings us to the long-awaited "Black Rainbow", perhaps the first record played in the history of dubstep. But I did not check, I went to memory, ready to be proven wrong by those who know. Clear sound filthy and beat frequencies, low waste and rhythmic that you fit in sternum, but also moments suspended and heavenly voices that you do not expect, or ragga rapping between English and French. In short, "Black Rainbows" is a great ... business card! For both International and The Tempest for Aucan, will remain abroad all open-mouthed, no rain. Especially after seeing them live. But this is his greatest honor, and his greatest flaw. Being a portfolio of what kids can do at the moment. A friend of mine, when I was first listening to the disc through its stereo megaimpianto said: "Fuck you hear here! Would be for him to make a base for Fabri Fibra." Which is not bad, but also the tone of the rest of the disk moves mechanically and professional between Massive Attack, The Bug , French rap (oh, no, but he's singing in English!), saturated and dubstep anthem but not those memories Battles (which by the way I think they're coming up with a new disc Who knows if they, too, veered dubstep ...) and fuck less calculated and more spontaneous mix of math, scioglievolezza and slenderness. It is not to do the devil's advocate that I write these things ... or maybe you do not know. It is simply what I thought listening to "Black Rainbows", certainly not "the first great record released in Italy in 2011" (maybe the second, the first is "WOW" of Verdena , sorry), but certainly the first step International a band and an Italian company that could break through the barriers of the underground and provincialism made in Italy, as they did before Christmas only Alessio, aka Walls and Banjo or Freakout . The year 2011 has just begun for Aucan , just fine! Congratulations! Oh yeah, did I expect? Well, something warmer, biting, adrenaline, sudden and spontaneous. Something that combines the expertise and passion, even cold at times, the Battles , with the warmth of some visceral and darker dubstep. I expected to invade me emotionally from a stream of sounds and heartbeats twisted, unexpected and low voices torcibudella, as well as the right amount of noise. It's probably exactly what they found, met, who incenses it as one of the hard core (Italian) ever. Oh well, it is a great record and something absolutely new and export for Italian. An important starting point.
